Recycling Bins

We have previously explained that Infraquinta will supply us with two sets of recycling bins. These are the modern underground type with only the chutes visible above the ground. They are similar to the ones that can be seen at Quinta Shopping.

The SPOA Executive was asked to suggest locations for the bins. This was not straightforward because the bins must be located on ‘public land’. In Salinas this means the car parking areas because the zona verde appear to be privately owned.  Both Infraquinta and ourselves wish to encourage recycling and we believe the more convenient the locations, the more likely it is that the bins will be used.

It seemed sensible to us to locate the bins where owners could easily pass them by car and to provide one set for owners from the east and central section of Salinas and another for the apartments, townhouses and villas at the western end of Salinas.

For this reason we suggested  the parking area by the palm trees opposite plot 62, where owners already leave their refuse in the “molok” provided. We suggested the parking area opposite plots 38 and 52 for the second set for similar reasons.

We thought the parking area by the Aguas do Algarve sewage pumping station was not suitable because of its lack of convenience. It is a cul de sac and would require a detour for most owners in Salinas.

Originally two owners objected to the location of one set of bins and subsequently two other owners have suggested alternatives; but given the constraints we believe our choice was logical and in the best interest of the majority of Salinas owners.

Infraquinta Investment in Salinas

€500,000 Investment

Long term owners will be aware of all the negotiations over the years involving SPOA and external agencies including Camara Municipal Loulé and Aguas do Algarve.

More recently there have been extensive discussions and negotiations with Infraquinta; so it is appropriate to summarise the progress to date.

In addition to the new sewage system installed by Aguas do Algarve and new street lighting by EDP, there has been almost €500,000 invested by Infraquinta over the past two years.

Infraquinta has:

Provided a new 50,000 litre water reservoir

Upgraded the water supply pipes with new valves, junctions and bends including 25 sections of new pipe under the roads

Fixed all the leaks, including some on private property, caused by the higher pressure of the new supply.

Replaced all the water meters and many of the housings

Re-paved the roads (with the final phase to start shortly)

Improved and maintained the sewage system

Provided street signs

Installed recycling bins (currently being done)

Provided regular road sweeping and maintenance
